'HALO' is a large scale immersive artwork by artist duo Semiconductor that was due to be presented in Southampton by John Hansard Gallery in 2020.
'HALO' uses raw data from particle experiments at CERN, Switzerland, to create a stunning audio-visual installation that explores how we experience the materiality of nature through the lens of science and technology.
For SOTSEF 2020, in place of their scheduled artist talk, John Hansard Gallery present the documentary film 'The making of HALO', commissioned by Audemars Piguet in collaboration with CERN.
'HALO' will now be exhibited in Southampton in 2021.

Welcome to Bioblitz 2020.
This year we are celebrating Bioblitz online to virtually bring together members of the public and nature experts to explore local wildlife and biodiversity.
Each week of SOTSEF, we will be giving tips on social media on how you can encourage biodiversity at home, asking you to share your own examples with us too.
We also want to share examples of how biodiversity is being encouraged across our University estate.
Keep an eye out for tips on how to get involved and bring nature to your doorstep.

G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T - their first live interactive virtual show
- Tony Roe keys, electronics
- Jamie Peet drums
Pioneering Dutch band Tin Men and the Telephone have always pushed boundaries. Now, Tin Men frontman, composer, pianist and electronics-guru Tony Roe delivers a show, online, with the same immersive interaction their audiences have come to expect. Using the latest technology, audiences can attend a virtual show, interacting with the band and sharing responses with fellow audience members.
Through the use of Zoom Video software and the band's revolutionary bespoke smartphone app, 'Tinmendo', audiences can become a part of their multi-faceted, interactive show in real time.
G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T (aka as 'Global Relocation of Evolved Apes Towards Exoplanet Suitable for Terraformation') is an immersive multimedia performance that addresses the very timely topic of global pandemics and climate change. With a twist.
"As a global health crisis takes hold and the climate crisis escalates, the time has come for humanity to leave planet Earth. Audience members are on board a space ship heading towards a newly discovered planet, however, it's far too cold! As they travel through space, they must collaborate to warm it up..."
As in the real world, audiences at home are asked to download Tinmendo, type, swipe and shake to interact with the band. They can guide the set to become part of the narrative, craft melodies and create beats from which the band improvise. All this serves as a jumping off point for the band's highly acclaimed, riveting jazz excursions that thread throughout the performance.
Following the show, audience members are able to download the music they have created with the band via Bandcamp.
How do I experience this event?
Choose your ticket - Economy Class (£6), Economy Comfort (£9) or Business Class (£12), depending on how you wish to support the artists - and book
Download the Tinmendo app ahead of the concert so that you can interact on the night
Create a Zoom account (Zoom software download optional)
Wait for the zoom link to be sent directly to you one hour before the performance

When the Sky Falls is Larry Achiampong's most ambitious and personal show to date. Featuring new moving image, sound and sculptural installations, this exhibition transforms John Hansard Gallery into a purgatorial space based on childhood ruminations, Akan deities and unearthed histories.
When the Sky Falls is a title that speaks of creation myths, folklore and the singsong refrains embedded in children's stories. All of which are ways that we (across generations) have tried to make sense of the world and what has in recent moments felt like "the end of days".

Through the use of digital animation, robotics, film, drawing and sound design Lindsay Seers has created a complex and layered environment that explores a world experienced differently. Inspired by Avatar Therapy, Seers draws on philosophical ideas and scientific research to consider historical representations of schizophrenia, alongside contemporary insights into the condition and how this relates to the hallucinatory and potentially psychosis-inducing technology we live with.

Many Voices, All Of Them Loved: Curated By Dr Sarah Hayden

This group exhibition explores how contemporary artists are mobilising the voice as sound, as metaphor, and as political material. The exhibition asks: what constitutes a voice, and what determines how particular voices are 'heard'?
Curated by Dr Sarah Hayden, the show features Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Kader Attia, Laure Prouvost, Willem de Rooij, Liza Sylvestre and Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa as part of the 'Voices in the Gallery' Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Leadership project (2019-21)

Hear the world premiere performance of SÓN Orchestra's "eWaste Project" live on stage! Featuring the voices of 85 children, young vocalists, rappers, electronics & ensemble, the 20 minute piece has been written by the youngsters themselves, all exploring themes of recycling, circular economy, and electrical & electronic waste - the fastest growing single waste stream in the world.
Surrounding the performers will be specially commissioned artwork by Susannah Pal, part of the wider TRACE project - Transitioning to a Circular Economy. Public awareness of eWaste is relatively low, yet by the end of 2020, there could be as many as 50 billion electronic goods produced annually. This will eventually lead to a tsunami of eWaste, estimated to be over 50 million tonnes globally in 2020.
